LICENSE.TXT, but all it contains is the Sandia National Laboratories report nuclear waste warning text

@mcc isn’t this just the MIT license with more flavor? “nothing of value is guaranteed here. the danger is to the project and it can induce critical errors”

@mcc I feel like this should be what I use for all the code I put on pastebin

@mcc I just recently simplified my license to this: "You may use this software however you like as long as you keep my name on it and don't sue me." I guess I could add the 'no highest esteemed deed' stuff and still fit it in a toot.

@rysiek @mcc I have a laser engraver, a guest toilet with the cat loo in it, and THAT sense of humor.

Guess what is mounted over the cat loo for a year already :)

@BoredomFestival @myrrlyn @mcc

This is instantly my favorite software license of all time.

Finally, a programmer who really understands software.

@TBB @mcc yes I want this too! As in: I don't have it, just an image from Teh Intertubes.

@jef Well

There's two things. One is you really do want to disclaim warranties. Maybe your "don't sue me" text is sufficient, maybe not I don't know.

But another is that some entities (like, people working at businesses with certain policies) need certain approved licenses in order to use OSS code. Your license might be simpler or even more lenient than MIT/zlib, but if a legal department has looked at and cleared MIT but has not looked at your license, that might actually block usage.

@CliftonR @BoredomFestival @myrrlyn @mcc @cadey came up with a good one, “Free as in mattress.” I don’t care if you use it, that’s your problem.

@jef So unless the idea of creating friction for corporations is appealing to you (which for some people I've spoken to, it is) I would recommend ending the license with "At your option, you may alternately take this code as being under the MIT license" or something.

@jef Of course, your informal text might actually provide increased protection against certain kinds of claims (patents) vs the MIT text. I am not a lawyer and don't know.

@rysiek @twipped @mcc @TBB $10 for the wood, $5 for use of the shop, $20 for time, $30 for having someone do it for you

@alpha I worry that the awesomeness of the text, and our desire to slap it on random things, will ultimately undermine its intended use.
